Why timber

Why Homeowners Still Choose Timber Fencing

Timber suits homeowners who want warmth, character and flexibility along the boundary. It needs a little more care than Colorbond over the years, but built properly with the right materials it’s a strong, premium-looking fence.

Natural appearance

The warmth and grain of real timber suits character homes, established gardens, and properties where a steel finish would feel cold.

Strong privacy

Close-board paling or lap and cap built properly gives full privacy along the boundary, with no visible gaps at the joins.

Flexible design

Timber can be built in a wide range of heights, styles and detailing to suit the property — front, side or rear boundaries.

Custom heights

Standard or taller heights for privacy, pets or noise — built level and square along the run.

Repairable in sections

If a panel or paling is damaged down the track, sections can be replaced without redoing the whole fence.

Honest maintenance picture

Timber needs more upkeep than Colorbond — oiling, staining or sealing over time keeps it looking right. We’ll explain what to expect.

Timber Fencing Built by Someone Who Understands the Details

Timber fencing isn’t just putting palings in a line. Heights, posts, rails, access, ground conditions, slope, privacy needs, material choice and finish all matter — and they’re where most timber fences fall short over time.

Ridgeback Fences is owner-operated by Oliver, who brings 10 years of fencing experience to every timber job. Based in Tewantin, Sunshine Coast focused, 6 years operating as Ridgeback Fences, and insured.

Help me decide

Not Sure Whether Timber or Colorbond Is Right?

Timber is often chosen for warmth, character and flexibility. Colorbond is often chosen for low maintenance, clean lines and long-term durability. The right choice depends on the property, privacy needs, style, access, and long-term expectations.

Built around your property

Timber Fencing for Real Residential Needs

Privacy from neighbours

Close-board paling or lap and cap built to height — full privacy along the shared boundary.

Pet-friendly yards

Tight palings to ground level, with sleeper plinths where slope or digging is a concern.

Replacing old timber fencing

Remove the existing timber, dispose of it, and rebuild with fresh palings, rails and posts.

Sloped blocks

Stepped or raked fence runs that follow the contour without leaving gaps at the base.

Feature front fencing

Hardwood or feature timber across the front of the home to lift street appeal.

Side and rear boundary

Standard paling or lap and cap along side and rear boundaries — privacy without overkill.

Natural-looking yards

Timber complements gardens, hedging and softscape better than most steel options.

Custom heights

Taller runs for privacy or noise, lower runs for sight lines — built to the height your block needs.

Gates and access points

Matching timber pedestrian and double gates, hung on quality hardware that won’t sag.
